Al-Markazul Islami (A.M.I.) is a private, non-political and non-profit service organization established in 1988 by Mufti Shahidul Islam (RA). It works to build a just society through education, tazkiya, dawah and social service. About 5,000 students are studying in 12 orphanages under this government-approved (NGO Bureau-685, Social Service-Dh-07157) organization.
It is providing low-cost or free medical services through its own hospital and ambulance, where various operations including cataracts, cleft lip and palate, circumcision and uterine tumors are performed free of charge. During the Corona period, the institution has played a leading role in bathing, shrouding and burial of dead bodies. The "Funeral Service" project, which started in 1989, has completed the burial of about 2 lakh bodies by 2025.
In addition, the construction of 40,000 shallow and 2,500 deep tube wells, distribution of Braille Qurans, sending 2,000 body bags for the Turkey-Syria earthquake, rescue and rehabilitation during disasters, and distribution of food, iftar, Eid items, sacrificial meat, and winter clothes among the poor continue.
